Flying The Friendly Skies

September 2015 was the year of firsts, the first time I stepped on a plane in 29 long years, the first for my husband who had ever flown with the exception of a puddle jumper as a child; and now our family’s first trip to Disney World. Fear had a way of paralyzing me through the years, making me partly or wholly incapable of movement in certain areas of my life. Becoming a stagnant pool with limited mobility towards healthy change and free flowing movement paramount to freedom. My fear riddled thoughts pooled up in a depraved ecosystem of what if’s, incapable to produce true liberty or a full abundant life Christ promised .

Yet the older I get the more I want all God has for me. Praying I fear less and fly more, allowing my spirit to soar. Though this is a mere dress rehearsal for all glorious eternity, I still want to learn to push fear aside to enjoy the ride along the way. Hunter S. Thompson wrote, “Life should not be a journey to the grave with intentions of arriving safety in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up totally worn out and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a ride!”

No doubt I will not be doing any death defying feats like jumping out of an airplane anytime soon, flying in a plane seems suffice at the moment.

Embarking on that epic journey I had the joy of taking the exact same suitcase my mama took on her first trip to Disney World with my brother and his lovely family in 1992. Overcoming her fear to fly again around the same age as me.

Carrying with me was the faithful verse Isaiah 27:3 she had given me on my last daring solo flight to Texas in my early 20’s. “You will keep her in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you: because she trusts in you.” His promise gently quieted my fears on that flight. Now that mama is with the Lord, He gave me a song to tuck away in my heart weeks before the trip. A Papa Daddy Hug to His worried daughter. Fittingly the the song was from the Disney film Aladdin: “A Whole New World”
I can show you the world
Shining, shimmering, splendid
Tell me, princess, now when did
You last let your heart decide?

I can open your eyes
Take you wonder by wonder
Over sideways and under
On a magic carpet ride A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us “No”
Or where to go
Or say we’re only dreaming, A whole new world
A dazzling place I never knew
But now from way up here
It’s crystal clear
that now I’m in a whole new world with you

Unbelievable sights
Indescribable feeling
Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling
Through an endless diamond sky

A whole new world
Don’t you dare close your eyes
A hundred thousand things to see
Hold your breath – it gets better
I’m like a shooting star
I’ve come so far
I can’t go back to where I used to be

A whole new world
Every turn a surprise
With new horizons to pursue
Every moment gets better
I’ll chase them anywhere
There’s time to spare
Let me share this whole new world with you

A whole new world

(A whole new world)
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us “No”
Or where to go
Or say we’re only dreaming
A whole new world
Every turn a surprise
With new horizons to pursue
Every moment, red letter
I’ll chase them anywhere
There’s time to spare
I’ll chase them anywhere
There’s time to spare
Let me share this whole new world with you…

Written across the sky Jesus Loves You

In the air I whispered this song gazing out the window. Then on land God’s kindness greeting us back from the air, His love letter written in the sky …

Flying the friendly skies with Jesus rerouted my fears to take flight in the opposite direction . His word promises in Psalms 91:4 ” He will cover you with his feathers and under his wings you will find refuge ,his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” Whether on land , sky or sea His is with you .

Where Does God what to take you ?DSCN0153 (2)
